Classical music is among the most durable music genres in existence, as composers have been writing new pieces since the 17th century. But music has changed over the years, and composers and musicians have adapted to those changes. For example, the flute, violin, viola, and cello were popular instruments in the 17th and 18th centuries, but in the 20th century, composers began composing for the electric guitar, trumpet, saxophone, and other instruments.
There are almost as many musical instruments as there are types of music—and counting. Music is ubiquitous and available for every taste, budget, and skill level. Instruments range from the inexpensive to the priceless, from toys to museum pieces. However, they can all be summed up to 5 different kinds of instruments we have today.
Strings
A stringed instrument is any instrument that has one or more strings stretched across its body. Most of them consist of a body, neck, strings, and a bridge. Some stringed instruments may have additional parts, but they all have strings that are either of the same or different pitch.

Woodwind instruments are one of the most varied instruments in the orchestra. There are many types of woodwind instruments, including flutes, clarinets, saxophones, oboes, bassoons, and bassoons. The flute and clarinet are the most popular and are both made of a curved tube (the flute) or a rounded “oval” tube (the clarinet).
Brass
A brass instrument is a musical instrument made from brass, usually a brass tube, that produces sound when vibrated. Some of them are played by blowing into them, while others are played by plucking, bowing, striking, or touching them.
The brass instrument family includes trumpets, trombones, horns, tubas, and trumpets. All are made out of brass and consist of a mouthpiece, bell, slide, and amplifier. They have a brighter tone than woodwinds and produce more complex melodies.
Keyboards
A keyboard instrument is a form of keyboard instrument designed to play musical instruments, more specifically music. They include a piano, organ, harpsichord, clavichord, and celesta. When a keyboard instrument is built to play the piano, it is referred to as a piano keyboard.

They are typically used to play music in recording studios, and live performances, and consume music in the home (though they can also be used professionally). A keyboard instrument typically has a set of electronic keys (keyboard) that, when pressed or played, generate sounds that are electronically amplified.
Percussion
The term “percussion” can be a little ambiguous. As it applies to musical notation, the word refers to the hand or sticks (for example, a drum) used to make a sound. Indeed, all percussion instruments rely on hands or sticks to produce sound, but the word can also refer to a collection of related tools. For example, the term “percussion ensemble” refers to a group of instruments, such as marimbas, vibraphones, and timpani, all played together.
A percussion instrument is an instrument that produces a vibration to produce a sound. The vibrations are created by striking a solid surface or object. These instruments fall into two general categories: membranophones, which sound when air is forced into a membrane, and idiophones, which produce a sound when an object is struck.
